Word on the street at Affiliate Summit

I wanted to do a recap of Affiliate Summit and pass along some info from the event.

The number 1 thing I heard at affiliate summit beyond anything else, was that affiliate marketers are generally unsure about list building. Granted, most people were talking to me about it for obvious reasons since I’m considered a list builder. But it was kind of amazing how many affiliates really didn’t know the first thing about list building.

Here’s a few common things I heard at the event:

• Most affiliates are afraid to do list building because they are used to sending their traffic directly to an offer and don’t want to risk that instant conversion.
• Most affiliates think that each email in an “email series” should consist of tricky ways to put in CPA offers.
• Most affiliates don’t have the first clue how to get someone to opt-in to a list.

It’s unfortunate that list building has been so misunderstood in the past. And taught so horribly by self proclaimed experts who really don’t know much at all about it, other than what they read in late 1990′s email marketing books that are now extremely outdated.
