This idea is something that really hits home with me and I wanted to share with you guys my own experience.
First of all, I would definitely consider myself an optimistic person, probably even a dreamer.
This kind of mental state is GREAT for coming up with amazing ideas and following them through. But, this kind of thinking also comes with its draw backs.
No matter who you are or how motivated you are to make money online, you simply have to know how to manage your time and how to manage your projects.
I’ve personally found myself in the trap of having too many projects going at once. What I have to do is simple but very hard. I have take a step back, take a 1 day break from all of my projects and work and make a list of all of my current projects. Then, I will prioritize and figure out what is or can be making me the most money right away, and I’ll structure my next month in such a way that is starts with the most important projects with the biggest money making potential. Now, it sounds really obvious, but time and time again I am finding myself drifting off and working on far too many projects at once before the prior project was fully launched or making the kind of money that it should be making.
I’ve recently started learning how to properly manage my time and projects. I’ve learned that at some point you just have to start saying no to other projects and figure out what has the ability to make you the most money in both the short term and long term, and focus on those projects. I find myself much more motivated to work on projects that I have a business partner on, so that I can’t get lazy. I think you all should do the same thing, and even if it’s just a programmer or designer that is making 10% of your earnings, it’s someone by your side to keep you on the right path and make sure that you are focusing and using your time wisely. Now, just be careful not to use that as an excuse to work less on a project because you have a partner, you should be working just as hard if not harder with a partner!
This leads me to another point. KNOW, what your time is worth. I see it time and time again (no pun intended), friends of mine wasting their entire day trying to do a logo or trying to program something when they are neither designers nor programmers. If you can hire someone for $35 to do a cheap logo for you on DP, then why are you sitting around trying to do it yourself when you don’t know anything about design!? Your time has a value, and you should not compromise that time unless it’s in your best interest. Even if you are making $0 right now on a project, you are pushing yourself back another day and making no money for another full day when you waste your time doing something that you shouldn’t be doing in the first place. If you can’t afford the $35 to have that logo (for example) made on DP, then maybe you should look for a partner that is capable of doing the graphical work for you. Or, offer them a larger amount paid once your product/website has launched, if you don’t want a partner.
