Tonight is Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
My home team Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples center in Los Angeles, CA.
From a Marketing standpoint, the Lakers are generally selling more clothes and making more money. It’s not only because LA is bigger than Boston it’s also for another reason.
L.A. has a hero in Kobe Bryant. Whereas, Boston has several heros but no 1 hero as big as Kobe Bryant. Boston plays as a unit and arguably that’s a better strategy than relying on 1 man.
The winner tonight will be the team that plays as a unit.
In marketing, if you’re a 1 man show, trying to do the marketing, graphics, coding, networking, customer service and the whole nine yards all by yourself then you are probably not utilizing your talents very well.
I used to spread myself pretty thin and try to be the hero and do everything myself… and then when I started focusing on my strengths and using my team (business partners, employees) to help me with the other areas like graphic design that I’m not very strong in, that’s when I started to hit it big.
My prediction for the game tonight? Of course, I have to go with my home team. In actuality though, it will be the team that comes to the plate working as a TEAM and not one guy trying to win the game by himself.
I expect an MVP performance from both Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo to make up for Kendrick Perkins not playing. They will need to work as a team if they want to pull off the win on Lakers turf.
Same goes for the Lakers, if Kobe tries to win the game himself, he’s not going to be able to stop the powers of Boston without his entire team involved.
This relates so well to marketing and business that I had to post it.
Oh, and GO CELTICS!
Sam, the other poster here is actually a Lakers fan, let’s see if he notices this post before the game tonight
Comments could get pretty heated!!

outsourcing things is always good but there’s quite a bit of risk if you have to put your own money up for it without any guarantee of a return. of course if you find the Kobe of marketing it will always be worth it.
Sorry to hear that the green guys didn’t pull it off. I didn’t watch it, spending time with my girls is much more fun than men’s basketball. BTW, you are much more likely to see basketball played as a team sport by watching women’s college teams.
