New Blog Design Launched!

How do you guys like the new blog design? I’m going out on a limb here and asking for everyone to comment with their likes and dislikes about the new design!

A couple focal points that I want your opinions on:

Is it easy to navigate?

Do you like the logo?

Is there anything you would change?

Answers to any of these questions would be appreciated!

Comments

  1. My opinions:

I love the colors. Very clean and simple. I love the layout, everything seems to be in the right spots.

What I would change is the numbers in the logo to be 3.7k instead of 3,7k (period instead of comma)

Also, I would like a darker area, either where the content is, or the background – everything flows together otherwise.

    Great design overall Brian!

    • @Profit Addiction

if i were to put a dark background the elements and colors wouldn’t blend together the way they are blending now.

As you can notice the design is built in a way that one color contrasts the other

      Regards,
      Tom

  2. Davest says:

Overall rather nice. As for suggestions: Reduce your add boxes to 4 while you are building up your advertisers. It will give your early ads greater visibility (bonus for signing up early) and reduce the unfinished appearance of a site with a lot of place holders. Alternatively, you cold simply place a “Would you like to see your ad here” text below where the ads would go. You’re also leaving a lot of empty space in your category box.

Still, it’s easy for one to critique another’s design. It is much harder to create. Kudos for the site redesign. Like rearranging the furniture, a redesign can lead to new perspectives and energy. Congratulations!!

  3. Pat says:

Very nice design Brian. Very clean and agreeable colors and design

    Can I borrow your guy?

I agree with Davest that a “would you like to see your ad here” would probably work well.

The newsletter and rss signups are below the fold in my browser and I’m not used to seeing them on the left like that but I’m sure you’re testing away at that.

    • Brian says:

Actually I will be adding a sign up on the top right as soon as I figure out what I want it to look like.

    • @Pat could you take a screenshot and insert the link in a comment with the name, version of the browser you are using, along with your resolution.

I will contact you shortly on the email address you used to post the comment regarding a possible job opportunity.

      Regards,
      Tom

I like the ‘clean’ look of this but do miss the old colors and design as well… You must be super excited about the new design :)

  5. Great layout, clean, nice colors great logo.
A little cluttered. I’d reduce the space occupied by the items in the sidebar, maybe collapsing them. But don’t take my word for it, test it!!

For security remove the WP version from the code – several plugins do that for you.
Just curious, what WA package are you using? I couldn’t find any…

    Thanks,
    Massimo

  6. Nathan says:

I like the color scheme and layout, pretty much everything except for the row of popular posts at the top (right above the revolving highlight reel) on the main page. I think having the row of static links above it might be better if they were smaller, but you may consider removing them from the main page and allow the highlight reel to do the lifting. Otherwise, these static links look good as is on all other pages. Just my 2c.

Just found your site not too long ago. I love the simplicity (I run a simplistic blog). Too often sites like these are overblown with crazy designs. I love design just as much as the next person but people can go overboard. Great job not doing that. Keep it up.
