Jim Kukral is DEAD!

Disclaimer: Jim Kukral is not actually dead. He just wants my attention, so I’m posting this to begin my viral campaign to get his attention. This is going to go far beyond a blog post and I’ll let you know what I’m doing each step of the way.

Jim was recently the keynote speaker at Affiliate Summit in NYC. He handed out his book at the event:

The first page of the book poses a challenge to get Jim’s attention, so I decided to take him up on it. Of course, in typical Daily Conversions fashion, we’re going to take that to extremes.

Chapter 64 of his book “Attention This Book Will Make You Money” is titled “Does Making S#*! Up To Get Attention Work?”. I won’t spoil the book for you, but he goes on to endorse doing interesting stuff to get attention.

Negative attention getting headlines are a very real and important part of marketing. No, I’m not going to go around claiming everyone is dead for my next marketing campaign but I’m hoping this has at least opened your eyes up to negative possibilities.

As far as making sh*t up goes, I sense that if you get people’s hopes up too much, there’s no easy way to let them down, and you risk losing a conversion. No?

    • Brian says:

Yah. This is true. That’s why I see it more with negative headlines these days. If you make up something like “I’m going to give everyone that reads this post $100″ and re-neg on it, then people generally just leave pissed off. But ,if you start negative and then immediately say “no no, I didn’t mean it like that” and then go on to give them something positive or that could help them then it can work better.

  2. LOL.. I have an interview with Jim here soon, and I was about to say why he didn’t email me to clarify he was dead.

I’m sorry to report that Jim was involved in a fatal car accident shortly after 1:00pm today. You must have put the whammy on the poor guy.

    With sympathies,

    BR

P.S. I made that sh*t up, sorry. Did I get your attention? ;>)

    • Brian says:

Woah, Yep! Got my attention for sure.

That’s why I put the giant disclaimer on the line right below the headline, because I knew otherwise someone would think it was real and be pretty damn sad.

  4. Jim Kukral says:

I am not dead. I have proof! Good stuff… You did get me to look that’s for sure.

Now… to the point of the book. How do you turn this attention into revenue???? Go the next step.

  5. Viktor Zeman says:

I hope next step will not be to kill Jim to fulfill your blog entry… :-)

  6. Brian,

Nice one man! I just bought my copy at Borders in CA for $24.95. I see your point in going to extremes. I’m up to Chapter 14 and Jim has some great ideas, and evidently so do you. Just Tweeted this post to my 2586 Twitter followers. Hope you get their “Attention!”. Respectfully, Nicholas Chase – future Attention! getter…
